Developed to measure the amount of force necessary to shear the
interface between pavement layers and the tack coat between them.
Heavy steel frame holds fixed and moveable shear plates. The
moveable plate incorporates friction reducing roller bearings to
minimize drag between the plates and is centered directly over the shear
plane, not offset.
A calibrated spring with a dial indicator controls the amount of lateral load on the specimen.
The apparatus is furnished with insert adapters to allow testing of either 100mm or 150mm diameter cores.
Shear plane gap is 0.5 inches (12.5mm). Maximum shear travel is 0.5 inches (12.5 mm)
Apparatus fits in most standard Marshall Load Frames with a minimum of 10-inches of space.
